In the morning of Sept. 27th, the School of Education held a “Big Hand Holding Small Hand” event to commemorate the 2575th anniversary of Confucius’s birthday and celebrate the National Day before the statue of Confucius on Weiming Hill in the school. The event was in collaboration with Yuzhigu Sensorial Education School and WEDZ Sanjiaohu Primary School. Over a hundred teachers, students, and leaders from the Department of Student Affairs and the Departmentof Publicity participated in the event.

Accompanied by ancient and melodious ritual music, the teachers and students adjusted their attire and straightened their bodies with reverence before the statue of Confucius, and the ceremony began with respect for the sage. Lu Yanping, a teacher from Sanjiaohu Primary School, introduced the origin and symbolism of the “Shicai Ceremony” (a traditional ceremony to offer dishes to Confucius as a token of respect). The participants then bowed to the statue three times with hands clasped to pay homage to the ancient master.

At the scene in the “Zhusha kaizhi” ritual, teachers painted a mole on students’ foreheads with vermilion as a blessing, symbolizing that they will have a clear vision and wisdom in their future academic and personal lives.

The head of the university’s Student Affairs Department delivered aspeech, urging students to draw wisdom from Confucius’s teachings and learn the valuable qualities of benevolence, courtesy, diligence, and perseverance. He encouraged them to contribute to the prosperity of the motherland with their knowledge and wisdom.

In the session of reading Chinese classical, students from primary, middle, and high schools read passages such as “Reading China,” the first chapter of  “The Analects: Book One - Learning,”and “Ode to Teachers,” aiming to learn about traditional culture and express their patriotic feelings.

The head of the School of Education called on students to inherit and promote Confucian educational ideas, becoming firm believers in and faithful practitioners of socialism with Chinese characteristics in a new era.

The event to commemorate Confucius’s birthday has been held for ten consecutive years. It is an important part of the Education School’s exploration in the new era to construct "great ideological and political education,” promote the integration of ideological and political education across primary, middle, andhigh schools, and advance traditional cultural education. The School of Education will further broaden the ways of introducing excellent traditional Chinese culture into ideological and political education, in order to guide students to become inheritors, advocates, and practitioners of both traditional Chinese culture and the idea of consolidating China through education.
